Cale Birk is the Imagineer of the Observable Impact Model and co-author of “Words on the Wall”, "Navigating Leadership Drift", "PLC 2.0 - Collaborating for Impact in Today's Schools" and "Changing Change Using Learner-Centered Design". An educator in the public school system for 25 years in British Columbia, He is a former District Head of Innovation and school leader: as a high school Principal, his school was named a model PLC school after increasing student success rates across all grades and subject areas for five consecutive years. Currently, Cale helps districts, schools, and industry leaders answer a core question: “What is our observable impact?”—the visible changes in practice we can observe making a difference for each learner. By shifting the focus from action to impact, he supports leaders and teachers in reimagining and implementing strategic, school, and team plans that are meaningful to educators and observable where it matters most: in classrooms.

Alongside his work as an author and facilitator, Cale is a TED Talk speaker and a frequent keynote at conferences across North America, Asia, New Zealand, and Australia. He coaches individual leaders and is the architect of the “Leading and Planning for Observable Impact Program,” a longitudinal leadership network that elevates and shares promising practices across schools, districts, and countries. Most recently, Cale launched the Pan Pacific Observable Impact (PPOI) Network, connecting school leaders worldwide to exchange global perspectives, ideas, and solutions to today’s leadership and instructional challenges. This will culminate at the first annual Pan Pacific Observable Impact Summit in Hong Kong in April 2026.
